Description: This folding brochure of for the grand Hotel George Washington in Jacksonville, Florida. The Hotel was built in 1926 and demolished in 1973. Owner Robert Kloppel offered a $1000 prize to the first aviator who crossed the Atlantic and awarded it to Lindbergh with much fanfare. The Beatles famously refused to stay in the Hotel when it was booked for the, when the learned that it was segregated. The brochure has color covers , a number of black and white photos of the interior and a map. The rooms, with a minimum $2.50 with no season rates, each had a tub and shower, steam heat, "circulating ice water" and a radio. There was a restaurant and coffee shop, hairdresser and gift shop. Later additions included a cocktail bar and an auditorium. There's no date on the brochure, but since there's no mention of the auditorium which was added in 1941, it must be from before that date.. The 6 by 4 inch brochure unfolds to 24 inches. There's some edgewear on the color cover, and 2 tiny splits on fold lines, but it's otherwise in good condition.
