Description: c 1935 Grafton China art deco tea trio in the "Bird of Paradise" design, pattern #5383. Produced by Alfred B Jones & Sons Ltd in their Grafton works, Marlborough Road, Longton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire where they operated in the period 1900 to 1972. Dimensions:The cup stands 6 cm tall and spans 11.5 cm from the outer edge of the rim to the outer edge of the handle. The saucer has a diameter of 13.7 cm.The side plate is 15.7 cm square. Delicately fluted shape with beautiful hand painted, raised enamel flowers, beetles and a bird of paradise design using orange, green and yellow with a green border and gilt highlights on a crisp white background. The indented square side plate marries well with the round cup and saucer, a typical design from this period. In good original vintage condition with no chips, repairs or restoration but there is a very small "mark" which I've assumed is a fine hairline to the lip of the cup, refer image 7. Minor kiln flecks and a couple of small scratches to the enamel. All pieces bear the ABJ & Sons Grafton China England back stamp. I have listed 5 trios, a milk jug & sugar bowl, a spare saucer & side plate, and a serving plate in this design separately.I do combine postage for multiple purchases and refund the difference on the day of posting.
