Description: Caricature by Jaime Valls, 1952.Technique: Mixed on cardboard.Measures: 13.5x 9.4 inches.Signed in the lower right corner. Jaime Valls Díaz (February 23, 1883 - October 31, 1955). Outstanding painter, sculptor, book illustrator, and cartoonist. He founded the Valls Study, a commercial entity used as a meeting place for artistic and literary youth. He became known in the Poster Contest, held in 1903, where he won the first prize. Valls's first drawings were published in the El Fígaro Magazine, who later illustrated textbooks dedicated to Public Schools. Years later, when he succeeded as a poster artist, he abandoned his journalistic work to found the Estudio Valls, a commercial entity that he spiritualized by turning its offices into the meeting place for the artistic and literary youth of that time. Keeping up with the aesthetic trends that were being debated in Europe, it will renew and revive Cuban graphic arts, which were fifty years behind. With Rafael Blanco and Conrado Walter Massaguer he forms the trilogy that will be in charge of clearing the caricature of colonial Andalusianisms that persisted in the drawings of Ricardo de la Torriente and his collaborators of La Política Cómica. Personal and group exhibitions:His first personal exhibition was exhibited in 1930. Exhibition of drawings of popular types and Afro-Cuban customs, Halls of the Press Association, Havana. He also participates in group exhibitions such as: Salón de Bellas Artes. Association of Painters and Sculptors, 1927 and La Vanguardia. Emergence of Modern Art in Cuba at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, 1988. Its main collection is in the National Museum of Fine Arts. Caricatura de Jaime Valls, 1952.Técnica: Mixta sobre cartón.Medidas: 13,5x 9,4 pulgadas.
