Description: HARPIDAE Harpa articularis GIANT Philippines. Bohol. Talibon. 15 m. 2014. Size: 107.8 mm. "ONE OF THE LARGEST! Second largest Harpa articularis out of 620 selected specimen that we handled in 11 years. This is a H. articularis from a white sand bottom. The shells take the color from the bottom from which they seldom emerge: only for minutes, in order to catch a sea urchin and disappear with the prey in the bottom. Therefore they are rare but impressive encounters for the diver. So impressive, that I never collected one: we only photographed. When touched, the animals leave part of the foot behind. It’s called “autotomy” in biology. See http://www.poppe-images.com/?t=33&search=articularis to see such a shell alive (but smaller of course). Many Harpidae collectors will be delighted to join such a major item to their collection. This is also a piece to be eyed by connoisseurs." - Poppe Documented by Conchology Inc.
