CHARLES LOTTON 1994 SELENIUM RED INTERIOR PEARLESCENT EXTERIOR 12 GOLD DROPLEAF

Description: This is a very unique & rare Charles Lotton vase for several reasons. Firstly, it is cased with a stunning translucent iridescent SELENIUM RED INTERIOR with a thick walled PEARLESCENT WHITE EXTERIOR. Secondly, Charles has DOUBLED the usual number of drop-leaves embellishing this large & hefty vase from the standard SIX drop-leaves to TWELVE drop-leaves. Each of the large drop-leaves displays an deep rich lustrous metallic gold hue with strong pink & violet iridescence. Drop-leaves were a popular embellishment used by many Art Nouveau era glassblowers including Louis Comfort Tiffany. Lotton's drop leaves are usually a metallic iridescent SILVER. These drop-leaves are unusual in that they are metallic GOLD, with beautiful unusual pastel pink, purple & violet iridescence. This strong iridescence changes hues & intensity as the lighting conditions change, which adds intrigue to the piece. Thirdly, if lit normally the exterior has a beautiful pearlescent appearance with strong pastel iridescent hues. When lit INTERNALLY with a light focused inside the mouth of the vase, suddenly the exterior appearance of this vase transforms from pearlescent white to a glowing flame orange-red hue. This large but elegantly shaped vase is truly a unique masterpiece made within Lotton's PEAK TALANT YEARS within the 1990's and early 2000's. By 1990, you see a striking perfection of all the elements required to make a museum quietly piece. By 1990 Charles had perfected his shapes, pigments, intricate pattern formation & techniques as well as his strongly iridescent surface treatments, as is seen in this large elegantly shaped DOUBLE (12) gold drop leaf pearlescent vase with a beautifully contrasted selenium red interior.
