The Chop Cup has a legendary status for being practical, relatively easy to perform, intriguing to lay audiences, and for fooling the heck out of them. In the classic version of the trick, a knit ball vanishes and appears under the metal cup, and finally, a large ball appears under the cup, completely filling it! Jaws drop when they see this... Leo Smesters designed and produced the Harmonica Chop Cup, which is made of silicone rubber and will collapse to fit easily into your pocket, or even with fit inside a card case! The effect is otherwise the same -- a small knit ball is placed in your pocket, then reappears under small cup. This can be repeated a few times, and then end with the larger load -- a small lemon or lime, a rubber ball, etc. I am sure some clever performer will produce a small glass of soda for the final load. :-) NOTE: the deck of cards shown in the photo is not included, nor is it needed for a chop cup routine. It is shown so you get a quick sense of size scale for this cup. Smesters issued Harmonica cups WITHOUT any chop balls included. (Really? he thought that was not gonna cause problems when people got a cup and then discovered they had to buy a ball set, too...) And because of the size and design of the Harmonica cup, it requires balls of certain specifications -- size and weight. Smesters and most sellers recommend very expensive ball sets, that cost almost as much as the cup alone (also made by Smesters, of course!) BUT I have found a nice set of two "monkey fist" balls that work very well with this cup -- nice size and weight. They are included to save you the trouble of getting a set yourself :-) (These monkey fist chop ball sets usually cost about $15.) Not only does the "monkey fist" design look super-cool, but they include work great with the gimmick in this cup. The "release" of the gimmick ball does not require unnatural force, yet the ball is secure when you want it to be. Harmonica cups sell for about $30 without the ball set, but buy it here for just a bit more, and you can get the cup and the necessary ball set.
