Description: Classical pose of man throwing discus in an arena gay man's collection 4x4 Turn of the 20th Century From a family estate of a gentleman's collection of gay and male related photographs and ephemera. Most items are from the early to mid 20th century and includes loose photographs as well as some pictures that were cut by the owner from an antique photo album. Digital Reprint This 4x4 snapshot is a retelling of the classical pose we see in the Ancient Greek sculpture, Discobolus. This pose shows an athlete competing in a discus throwing event, and has been copied and reproduced many times over the years. See the included photo for a sample look at the original statue design.I'm guessing that this photo was made in the very late 19th or very early 20th Century, likely no later than 1910. This european model (with no tan lines) is standing in what looks to be the ruins of an arena or amphitheater.Of course this sale is for the 4x4 photograph only, and does not include the Discobolus statue or the picture of it.Check on this link to see the entire Gay Man's Estate Collection of photos. A portion of the sales from my original prints are donated by eBay on my behalf to The Trevor Project. Their mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ young people. They offer crisis services, counseling, safe spaces and more. If you have the opportunity, search for online and watch the short film Trevor, on which this foundation is based. *For this type picture, I made digital repairs to the original images and had them professionally reprinted. Each of these photos is labeled at the top of the listing as "Digital Reprint" to indicate that these are not the original prints of these images. They are also priced accordingly.2 picture(s) included as part of our description. Please examine carefully before purchase. If you have any questions before purchase please contact us here: we are very happy to help in any way we can. Please note that inclusion in this gentleman's collection does not imply that the people in the photo are gay or bi. Perhaps someone in the photo was a friend, or maybe he just picked up the picture somewhere for his collection. DAT1214 2402d Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
