Description: After more than 60 years of collecting coins it is time to move them along to new homes. Here is a Roman Imperial bronze 17mm follis issued under Constantine II who ruled as Caesar from 316-340 AD. This one was minted in Rome between 316-317. The son of Constantine I (the Great), he was Augustus from 337-340 AD and proclaimed Caesar by his father shortly after his birth and grew to be an accomplished military leader with victories over the Samaritans and the Goths. This coin has fair details on both sides and shows wear from circulating in the Roman Empire marketplace for daily transactions. The obverse has a full legend reading CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C with a laureate, draped bust right of the emperor. The reverse legend reads ROMAE AETERNAE, ("eternal Rome") with Roma seated right with a shield at her side, inscribing XV in two lines on a shield set on her knee. The Rome mintmark R EPWC S shows in the exergue below the design. This coin has toned to a medium dark bronze and the details are fair due to circulation wear. This coin shows in the Roman Handbook RIC VII Rome 200 S.I often receive questions as to which websites I recommend for research and while there are several good ones out there, I particularly like Wildwinds.com and numismatics.org and also forumancientcoins.com. I have often been asked what could these type coins buy in Roman days? At the time of this issue, one of these would buy enough bread for one day for a family or one liter of common wine so these type coins were used frequently for daily needs. As I bought most of my coins literally decades ago, I can offer them at the best available price you will find for the condition so my collection does not wind up in my “estate” sale! As everything needs to find a good home, I also provide FREE SHIPPING to within the US. **AS I AM FINALLY DISTRIBUTING MY COINS FROM OVER 60 YEARS OF COLLECTING YOU WILL FIND AFFORDABLE COINS OF INTEREST AT MY SITE FOR THOSE JUST GETTING INTO ANCIENT COINS AS WELL AS FOR THE ADVANCED COLLECTORS – ALL PROVIDED WITH CONTEXT IN HISTORY.
