Description: Crofton Meadows by Joan Houston. Thomas Y. Crowell Co., 1961, 1st edition. 242 pp. Hard to find! By the author of Jump-Shy and Horse Show Hurdles. 15-year old Sheila is the daughter of the manager of the riding stable for an elite girls boarding school, and an accomplished equestrienne, having raised and trained Jubilee, an elegant chestnut mare. After Sheila reluctantly accepts a scholarship to the school she must deal with her insecurity around the wealthy students, particularly sophisticated Lorraine, who takes a special interest in Jubilee, and who can afford to buy anything she wants. Lots of challenges for Sheila, both in the riding and the social arena. Great characterizations, too! Please excuse the uneven lighting and the glare on the removable dust jacket cover in the photos. Its blue cloth covers show slight shelfwear. The corners are still nice and pointy. Foxing on endpages. No writing in book, no creased or torn pages. But there are some dirty fingerprints inside. The nice bright dust jacket has chips at top and bottom of spine, plus a narrow ¾” long hole at front spine hinge. It has some large stains on it as well. A previous owner has written her name on the front dj flap. *NOT* ex-library. From a smoke-free home. Will be well packed.
