Backs irregularly shaped, I have drawn in a largest back shape I think can squeeze on this set at about 7.5 at lower bout and 5.5 upper, 19.5 long sanded to approximately .0.150 thick. Sides about 5.1 to 4.4, 32 long, sanded to about 0.140 thick. So note there are some spots as shown inside pattern that will still need fill. Backs not big enough for a dred, but still a rare wood in quartered guitar back width with curl! I have taken many pics to try and describe the wood and will be happy to answer any questions. well quratersawn. Last 3 pics are reverse faces, an extra spot to fill here seen in last photo, and you can also some age related discoloration that will be inside guitar.Price reduced due to issues Persimmon is a member of the ebony family, also called white ebony, with a janka hardness of 2300 and density of 52lbs per cubic foot. Persimmon is almost all lighter colored sapwood. the only black that can be seen in this is around the tiny pin knots and the the larger open knots outside the pattern at top and bottom, I know little about this wood other than it was once used for wooden golf club heads. I have never seen any for sale or owned any persimmon wood, but when I saw this was curly and wide enough for guitars, I decided to take the chance. While the janka and density of this wood is reminscent of a rosewood, I do not think its tap is bright like a rosewood, but more woody like a walnut. So I would say rather than bell-like it is sort of gong like in tap, probably due to its excellent sustain when I tap, I personally think this is due to the nice curl combined with the density. The wood is supposed to darken with time, but I do not know this for certain as I have never owned a piece. I think it might look nice dyed darker, myself. I have read this wood was used by some as fingerboards when dyed black. This came from upper PA. I took first photo with flash since its hard to see curl in my other photos. The edges are rough/have not been jointed. Some defects outside pattern.
