Alfred Domett, born in England, was the fourth premier of New Zealand. He was a close friend of the poet Robert Browning. His poem " A Christmas Hymn " is here illustrated, in color, with several plates after paintings by Joseph Christian Leyendecker (1874 -1951). Leydecker was a German-American illustrator, considered one of the preeminent American illustrators of the early 20th century. Leydecker is best known for his poster, book and advertising illustrations, the trade character known as The Arrow Collar Man, and his numerous covers for The Saturday Evening Post.
