Description: Dendrobium rupestre is a very rare miniature orchid related to D. cuthbertsonii. It is even smaller in size than the latter with large bright magenta-colored flowers that last for months. The leaves amazing silver-blue in color which is hard to show with a camera. This orchid is cultivated in just a few private collections worldwide. A few plants of this species were imported into the US from Papua back in the 90s, however, most (or all) of those plants have died since then. Our plant might the only one of this species that is still cultivated on this side of the globe. In other words, this might be the only opportunity to acquire it in the United States. Dendrobium rupestre is not the easiest orchid to grow but we’ve mastered it cultivation and can share our conditions. Temperatures are fairly constant and fluctuate between 50-60 at night, and 65-75 during the day. Warmer during summer, cooler during winter. It will rot if your nights are above 60 or days are above 80 for more than a few days in a row. Humidity is high, it is close to a humidifier, no less than 70%. Air movement is strong so the plant is almost dry before it is watered again. We water with RO water every day during summer and every other day during winter. We fertilize with very dilute fertilizer ones a week. Light is pretty bright. Offered here is a blooming size division with four pseudobulbs and a new lead. It is a very slow growing plant, producing only 1-2 pseudobulbs per year so we won’t have anymore available for the next several years. This plant will be shipped FedEx Standard overnight with a heatpack (if needed). Fedex will require a signature when the plant is delivered so please, make sure someone is home, or let us know when to ship so we can work around your schedule.
