Description: First edition, second printing hardcover copy of Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert (G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1969). Book two in the beloved science fiction masterpiece series, Dune. A fairly enigmatic printing history for this title. The materials used appear to be more akin to a late 1970s book from Putnam, while the third impression ($7.95 on jacket) appears more like the first, which was priced at $4.95 and both had red cloth boards. This copy is price clipped but according to isfdb and other resources online, the price for this printing was both $4.95 and $14.95. The only other printings I’ve found info for are the 6th ($17.95) and 7th ($18.95). These later printings sometimes have the same black boards as this. Perhaps am error on Putnam’s behalf? Jacket in archival sleeve but with rubbing to faces and wear around the edges, including bumps, creases and small tears. Boards straight and clean, corners bumped. Binding firm. All pages clean though several are creased/bumped at fore edge.
