Description: Up for bid is a good early 19th C pierced arm sugar tongs, likely from Hamburg, Germany, dated 1820. The piece is 6 1/4 inches long and weighs 44 grams. The piece has shell grips and pierced wriggle-work arms with beaded edges. It is monogrammed “HH / 1820” in pricked characters inside the arm, though the piece itself may well be earlier. It is marked on the outside of the bend with a three tower castle around a “K”, likely a Hamburg date mark, and a maker’s mark of [N*B]. Condition on the tongs is fairly good. The arms are a bit twisted, and there is just normal wear from use. There are no cracks or repairs. An interesting old tongs!
