BURKE, Edmund. A Letter from the Right Honourable Edmund Burke to a Noble Lord, on the Attacks Made Upon Him and His Pension, in the House of Lords... [No publisher noted, possibly published and Printed for J. Owen]. Londres: 1796. Octavo. 72 pp, complete. Title continues; by the Duke of Bedford & the Earl of Lauderdale, early in the present sessions of Parliament. First edition, fourth, fifth, or sixth impression but undetermined due to lack of half title. Text in French. Bound in 19th century beige drab boards, manuscript writing to covers, previous owner's ex-libris and markings on the title page along with a small blank stamp in top corner. Spine rubbed, wanting endpapers. Overall, a very good copy of a scarce Burke title. This was one of Edmund Burke's last significant works, written and published in 1796 the year before his death. In it Burke skewers the Duke of Bedford for hypocrisy in questioning the King's grant of a pension to Burke and explains Burke's opposition to the French Revolution and similar leveling movements in England, thus saving the lands and lives of aristocrats like Bedford. Conor Cruise O'Brien in the introduction to his thematic biography of Edmund Burke, "The Great Melody," lists this as among Burke's works of highest eloquence that "is in a special class of its own, but belongs to the general context of the French debate." $300 SAME DAY SHIPPING The City Park: A Reproduction of an Antique Stand-Up Book Lothar Meggendorfer NF Shop $50.00 Madonna THE ENGLISH ROSES 1st Edition 1st Printing In Slipcase & DJ Shop $60.00 The Story of Roland Illustrated by Illustrated By Peter Hurd, 1930 Shop $35.00 Little Orphan Annie Little Big Books Shop $35.00 Cat in the Hat Dr. Seuss Orig 1957 Book Club HC RARE (VG-) Shop $30.00 LIMITED EDITIONS CLUB -Stephen Crane, Maggie A girl of the streets 1974 #1936 Shop $35.00 Good Girls Gift, 1880, Mrs. Sale Baker, Scarce!
