Description: This listing is for a fine antique Japanese hand painted Imari shallow bowl with scalloped rim. This rare piece is hand decorated in the Imari palette in colors of iron red and dark blue on an off white ground. The decoration is beautifully enhanced with elements of gilding. The central scene is of a rising sun over mountains, water and land. The scene includes boats and buildings. The border is brocaded, with flowering plants and diaper panels. The reverse is decorated in blue with flowering plants. The base is marked with four stilt /spur marks where the dish was supported in the kiln. This rare piece measures approximately 8.25” diameter x 1.75” high. Superb condition for such an early piece, with no restoration. There are iron deposits and crackles to the glaze.
