Superb canvas poster, printed in lithography and color, representing the muse of Scripture seated on a Corinthian capital against a background of the setting sun. A naked child holds at his feet a portrait by Gutenberg placed next to symbols of the arts: a painter's palette, a rolled up canvas, a lyre, a book and a sculpture representing a lion. Tax stamp of the French Republic. Eugène Ogé (1861-1936) began as an apprentice with the Parisian printer specializing in posters, Charles Verneau. He becomes a lithographer worker. During this period, he met artists like Willette, Forain and Steinlen. In the mid-1890s, he opened his own workshop and began designing posters, first under contract with Verneau, then with the printer Vercasson. Inspired by the style of Chéret, he composed images with opulent women. He then enjoyed a certain success, devoted himself entirely to this art and became an important poster artist of the Belle Époque. Subsequently, his style will gradually evolve towards genre scenes, humor and caricature. In 1902, he collaborated with La Lanterne, producing anticlerical caricatures, then he worked with important brands seduced by his sense of humor: Bouillon Maggi, Gellé brothers, Bicyclette La Guêpe, Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville, Réglisse Zan, Bec Auer, Thé Lombart, Billiards Brunswick, etc.Some discreet restorations but beautiful state of conservation of this poster with its very fresh colors.
