The pad's 4.9 R-value is suitable for stand-alone use in all but the coldest of winter temperatures.While the mattress does need to be blown up, the included Exped Schnozzel Pumpbag UL makes the job a cinch and also prevents potentially destructive moisture from being introduced to the interior of the pad during inflation.
