Description: Flavorite Brand. This uncommon vintage 1930 orange crate label depicts two fairies with butterfly wings injecting flavor into oranges growing in a grove of trees at nighttime against a backdrop of fireflies. "Flavorite" is obviously a combination of “flavor” and “favorite”. Some of the new labels that emerged in the Advertising Age of California Orange Crate Labels (1920 - 1935) reflected the Art Deco design movement. At its best, this art treatment created a feeling of modern elegance. On labels of the 1920s and early 1930s, it was combined with innovative color treatments made possible because of the development of new printing ink formulations and sophisticated printing registration techniques. The result was a succession of attractive new label designs such as Flavorite. Through its use of stylized imagery Flavorite successfully conveys its advertising message by using an unusual design theme and color treatment in conjunction with a prominent display of oranges as an integral part of the design. This label is vintage - not a copy and is in fine condition with some waves and minor handling wear, Featured on page 52 of the definitive collectors guidebook "California Orange Box Labels", by Gordon T. McClelland & Jay T. Last. The image shown in this eBay listing is a high-quality accurate-color scan of the actual label that is for sale.
