Description: "What are cappings?"wet" cappingsHoney comb in a jar... Makes a great tasting super-food spread for crackers, bread, etc... Bees build honeycomb with beeswax, they then fill the cells of the comb with honey, and once they have reduced the moisture content to around 18% or less, they cover the cells with wax (cappings) in order to prevent atmospheric moisture from diluting the honey. When a beekeeper is extracting honey from the comb, the first thing he does is remove the cappings from the honeycombs to facilitate the extracting process, and these cappings contain a lot of pollen grains, so eating cappings along with honey exposes one's immune system to even more pollen than just honey. Bees secrete wax which they form into honeycomb. They fill with honey and cap it. The longer the honeycombs stay in the hive, the darker they get until the cappings will be very dark after a few months. This is because the bees are constantly bringing propolis into the hive to seal the cracks and spread around the hive to destroy bacteria harmful to the bees. In the wild, inside hollow trees, the bees coat the walls inside the hollow tree with the propolis which stops the wood from rotting. The bees bring the propolis into the hive in their pollen baskets on their legs and it is deposited on the cappings as they travel over the honeycomb. Therefore the caps become dark from the propolis. The main benefit of the cappings is that you get that propolis, pollen and minerals when you eat/chew the dark cappings. This product can be taken by the spoonful by itself or you can slather on a piece of bread or cracker to eat. These cappings are saturated with honey which was recently extracted. This product is full of pollen (beebread), propolis and beeswax. We ship our product in glass 1lb. honey jars. The color of the cappings may vary depending on the honey source the bees visited. Separation will occur feel free to stir before eating or just eat separated. Honey will tend to settle to the bottom of the jar. I keep my bees on organically managed farm and forest land.I don't use any vaccines, chemicals, pesticides, etc. in and around my hives
