Description: Fossil Fish Diplomystus, Green River Formation #40 Diplomystus dentatus was a species from the Green River formation and was is an extinct genus of freshwater clupeomorph fish distantly related to modern-day extant herrings, alewives, and sardines. They were surface feeders with a diet consisting of smaller fish like Knightia. Green River Formation Eocene Period, 50 Million years ago. This fish is 3 1/4" on a piece of 4 1/4" by 2 7/8" oil shale / sand stone.
