Here is an absolutely beautiful all-natural pyritized brachiopod from the Waldron Shale Formation from Blue Springs Quarry ( now filled with water) in Waldron, Shelby County, Indiana. The species is Strophodonta striatus. It measures about 1.12" across (28.4 mm.). The matrix is about 3" by 3.75", and it weighs 8.3 oz. It appears to our view that the whole brachiopod is pyritized.
