Description: Fostoria was among the first of the American glass companies to initiate an advertising campaign focused directly on the consumer. This volume includes 110 advertisements (including direct marketing ads from Fosdick), and 26 pages of advertising mats. Many of the ads are in color. 63 patterns are identified by name, as well as 3 etches, 21 cuttings, and 26 other decorations, with another 22 individual items or sets shown. Patterns found in this volume include American (still!), Argus, Aspen, Century, Coin, the Crown Collection, Glamour, Heritage, Jamestown, Misty, Monarch, Precedence, and Sculpture, including many offerings in lead crystal. Popular decorations include Beloved, Bridal Belle, Carousel (cutting), Classic Gold, Engagement, Georgian (cutting), Invitation, Navarre (etching), Richmond, Rose (cutting), Sheffield, Sweetheart Rose (cutting), Trousseau, Wedding Ring, and Westminster (cutting). A careful review of these advertisements will provide the reader with a great amount of additional information on the patterns and products manufactured by Fostoria in this initial era of advertising. Photos contain samples of unknown decorations, rarely seen patterns and the texts in the advertisements are not only beautifully written, but provide added information about the company. A full index is included.
