The police and mob boss Nick Gatt use their own ways to try to find the mysterious Axel and keep him from harming Annie; Gatt's methods are more brutal--and more effective. Buck shoots Gregory as the shopkeeper tries to take Annie into a back room where Axel's men are waiting. Annie finds out that Axel and his followers plan to take over the country. While Nick Gatt is trying to figure out a way to stop Axel, Byron Bolo is working on a plan to eliminate Gatt and take over his rackets. Nick Gatt brings Annie back to the Tecums, but he and Bryan Bolo are both killed in an off-panel shootout.
