Description: This is a rare May 27th, 1930 programme (playbill) from the opening week of the 4th West End revival of the FRANZ SCHUBERT, A. M. WILLNER and HEINZ REICHERT musical play (operetta) "LILAC TIME" at the Lyric Theatre in London. (The Original West End production opened December 22nd, 1922 at the Lyric Theatre in London and ran for 626 performances while simultaneously playing on the road. This revival opened May 26th, 1930 and run for seven weeks, closing July 12th, 1930.) ..... Using the melodies of FRANZ SCHUBERT, the musical starred GERTRUDE WOLFLE as "Lili Veit", LIONEL VICTOR as "Christian Veit", FREDERICK BLAMEY as "Franz Schubert" and THORPE BATES as "Baron Franz Von Schober" and included MINA GREENE, ELLA SCOTT, BETTY MILLAR, ROBERT NAINBY, FREDERICK CARLTON, CYRIL WHITTLE, DENIS THOROUGHGOOD, MARGOT CAREME, GRACE TROLLOPE, GEORGE VOLLAIRE, WALTER OUTHWAITE, JOHN KELLY, ERNEST NORRIS, MARY MACKAY, ENID LOWE and HORACE ROSE ..... Historical note: "Lilac Time" (London) and "Blossom Time" (New York) were produced within a year of each other, both based on the 1916 Viennese operetta Das Dreimäderlhaus with music by FRANZ SCHUBERT, rearranged by Hungarian HEINRICH BERTE. Both productions were huge successes with the Broadway production of "Blossom Time" opening September 29th, 1921 at New York's Ambassador Theatre and running for 516 performances and the West End production of "Lilac Time" opening December 22nd, 1922 at London's Lyric Theatre and playing 626 performances .... CONDITION: (Please Note!) The program shows moderate to heavy creasing, light soiling to the cover and the seal has been removed. Despite these flaws, this rare playbill will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
