A craftsman welded on an end section from a Berthier 1892 bayonet and rest of the pommel was fabricated from a metal alloy resembling an original Lebel bayonet pommel. It's nicely done and solid. Probably done for WWI. There is a "B" with a star above on the spine at the top rear of the blade and another "B" on the front of the barrel ring. The same location at the bottom of the blade has two markings, perhaps a "C" and an "E," beneath the quillon. The back of the pommel is marked "1".The left side of the quillon is marked with a serial number that's well-worn and a symbol or character at the tip, possibly a "C".The scabbard is in very good condition. It's straight and smooth, not dented. It has traces of original dark finish but is mostly aged, with no rust or pitting. The raised ring is marked "2888" with what looks like two letters preceding. The overall length is 24-7/8 inches.
