Description: Here for you the chance to grab yourself and ORIGINAL AND GENUINE example of French army's infantry officer saber model 1821 Sword is just over 85 cm/33.5 IN total length, with a 70 cm/27.5 IN long steel blade (see pictures). Features a leather-covered grip and beautifully decorated brass guard. The blade is in really excellent conditions, its nice and clean and perfectly straight, with a nice level of genuine antique patina; there are no dents and no signs of rust or pitting - there's just a few darker spots, but overall it's in really excellent conditions. The blade also has some really nice engravings - these would have been gold-coloured originally, but just very small traces of the original colour remains, however the etched decorations (wraths and cannons) are still very much intact. The base of the blade is marked with the letter W, indicating this was manufactured by Weyersberg in Solingen, which manufactured a number of blades for the french army at the beginning of 1800. The original leather-covered grip in is very good conditions, and still retains the original brass wiring wrapped around the grip. There is a small play between the guard and the grip, as quite often found in swords this age. Comes to you in its original leather scabbard with brass fittings - the scabbard is in very good conditions, considering this is (almost) 200 years old leather; the leather body is intact but a bit delicate and there's just few loose stitches along its length. This is without a doubt a great item / gift idea for anyone interested in militaria / antiques, French/Napoleonic history or any swords lover looking for a truly unique item - the engravings on the blade make it very collectible and desirable, and the amazing conditions of the blade make it a great chance to own an amazing original piece at a very fair price - you'll be hardly pushed to find another one at this price! please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about this, or any other item in my shop! ...now to the boring (but important) bits..
