Description: This is a German Fireman's Long Bayonet (III. Reich Feuerwehr Extraseitengewehr). This dress bayonet is drop forged, 15.75" (40 cm) in total length. The long bright nickel/silver plated steel blade with wide fuller to each side. The blade is in overall extremely good condition and measures 10" (25.4 cm) in length. This longer model bayonet was intended for wear by ranks of Feuerwehrmann through to Brandmeister. It is distributor-marked "JOHANN KIRCH, MAGDEBURG," which is rare. The brown leather washer is intact. The hilt consists of nickel/silver plated steel cross guard, eagle head pommel and molded black bakelite grips with a repeating grooved diamond pattern. The cross guard features one up-swept and one down-swept arm. Diamond grooved bakelite grips are held in place by two dome headed rivets. Magnetic sheet metal scabbard retains about 90% of its original black finish. Throat retaining screw and frog lug are both intact. The blade is near mint and I purchased it in 2008 from a private collector. This bayonet is discuss in "Seitengewehr: History of the German Bayonet 1919-1945" by George T. Wheeler (1st Edition), pages 101-103. NOTE: These are all pieces from my 30 year personal collection of WW2 Militaria that I am now liquidating. They are all authentic unless otherwise noted in the description.
