Gettysburg Civil War Relic Group/East Cavalry Field July 3, 1863/George Custer v

Description: Gettysburg Relic Group dug at the East Cavalry Field. #1 These relics were dug on private property with the owners permission in the area of the East Cavalry Field in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Mike Parker of Birmingham, Alabama dug these items October 28, 2002. I purchased the items from Mike April 27, 2020. On July 3, 1863 General Lee ordered Confederate Cavalry General Jeb Stuart to attack the Union rear positions in conjunction with an attack of the Union front by General George Pickett. This failed attack is known as "Pickett's Charge". General George Custer was in a position whereby he and his Michigan Cavalry Brigade was able to stop Stuart from completing his orders. If it wasn't for Custer and his Troopers the outcome at Gettysburg may have been much different. This action at Gettysburg is fascinating reading. My Uncle Henry McKinstry served with the 5th Michigan Cavalry and fought with Custer on July 3, 1863. Henry was wounded at the Battle of Haws Shop, Virginia May 28, 1864. He was discharged in December of 1864 and returned to his farm in Capac, Michigan. He died in 1910 at the age of 71. These relics will make a nice addition to your Civil War Collection. They are very special in that they were recovered at the most famous of all Civil War Battlefields, Gettysburg. The location they were recovered and the diggers name is identified. They are also associated with General George Custer and General Jeb Stuart. I will include a hand signed letter by me stating the provenance for the relics.
