The owner of Gettysburg Relics was the proprietor of Artifact at 777 on Cemetery Hill in Gettysburg for a number of years, and we are now selling on eBay. THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA / RECOVERED ON CULP'S HILL - These four miscellaneous Civil War relics, include an iron bar that is bent in half, a piece of melted metal which may be one of the pieces of hook from the back of a cooked Federal belt plate, and what appear to be two shell fragments, one larger sliver of shrapnel and a smaller chunk. Total weight is 4.3 ounces. The shell fragments measure 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" long. These artifacts were recovered in the Culp's Hill area on private property many years ago by a Gettysburg area man. There is still private property on Culp's Hill to this day. Culp's Hill, although overshadowed today by the battle on the Union left on July 2nd and by Pickett's Charge on July 3rd, saw intense fighting, particularly on the morning of July 3rd. It could easily be argued that the fighting here was, perhaps, the key to the entire battle. A provenance letter will be included. We include as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are original identification tags, or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic, and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Some land on Battlefields that are now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, were acquired after the items were recovered.
