The rim of the horn bears a runic inscription is in long branch younger futhark which reads "Sound me and wake the gods". Engraved in the center of the horn is an image of Heimdall. The inscription in his might gjallarhorn reads, "Heimdall all seeing God. " Long branch runes are also known as Danish runes and were common to most od Scandinavia in the Viking age.
