Description: This is a vintage antique sample of patented antique barbed wire. This sample features a Joseph F. Glidden patent, dated November 24, 1874. This wire is called "Glidden's Hog Wire with Two Point Barbs on Alternating Lines", by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 327-B). This wire features two twisted together round line wires. Barbs are two pointed made by wrapping barbing wire twice around one line. In this sample barbs are wrapped on each line in alternating sequence. Barbs are close-set being about 1" apart. These wires are generally referred to as hog wires, and used as the bottom wire on the fence. Wire sample shows light pitting. There are fifteen barba. Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered. There are no bent, broken or missing barbing points.
