Description: Offered here is a watercolor of the A.F. Harvey, Great Lakes steamship owned by Pittsburgh Steamship Company/US Steel by the famous Great Lakes artist Fr. Edward J. Dowling, who painted hundreds of paintings in his career while a professor at University of Detroit. This watercolor was executed in 1936 and is the Harvey that is later renamed the Cedarville which sinks in a collision years later. I have done temporary matting for the sale and for shipping. The painting is about 12x14. It was given to Fr. Kerner a Jesuit professor of history at John Carroll University who then gave it to Fr. Donald Smythe, another Jesuit professor of history at John Carroll University who then gave it to their friend Alex Cook. The painting has suffered but the image of the boat is completely intact. I have stabilized the painting with acid free tape. The painting can be temporarily mounted for safe shipping. I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW BUT ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE WATERCOLOR IS A PENCIL DRAWING BY DOWLING OF A PASSENGER BOAT. I HAVE UPLOADED A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE DRAWING!
