Description: Groove Holmes - Shippin’ Out LP 1st press 1978 RVG Idris Muhammad Soul Jazz Holmes recordings are fine groovy affairs Giordano's guitar work shines Shippin' Out is an album by jazz organist Groove Holmes recorded in 1977 and released on the Groove Merchant label the following year. This is a good old fashioned soul jazz album, recorded in June 1977, but could easily be from a decade prior. The title track is a burner, an extended blues groove with Holmes and Idris Muhammad going at it for about ten solid minutes. Other highlights include covers of "Windows" and "Stella By Starlight". No complaints about this pressing, sitting dead center between the speakers, the band sounds like it would on stage, with great instrument separation and a warm, full-bodied sound. Scott Yanow called it a "fine Muse LP, which would be followed by several other rewarding efforts" stating "Back in a comfortable setting, heading a soul-jazz quintet ... Holmes explores a wider range of songs than usual" Richard Arnold "Groove" Holmes(May 2, 1931 – June 29, 1991) was an American jazz organist who performed in the hard bop and soul jazz genre.
