Description: HIGONOKAMI Wisteria Vine Handle Blue Paper Steel Traditional Japanese KnifeMade in Japan HIGONOKAMI is a traditional Japanese folding knife with the history of over 130 years in production since 1894.It is sometimes said to be a "Japanese Opinel" with its same long history, simple construction, durability, and unchanging original shape.This has been a standard folding knife every Japanese familiar with.There have been about 40 factories manufacturing HIGONOKAMI in peak period (1950's), but only one small factory remaining now on the verge of extinction due to the appearance of pencil sharpner, snap-off blades, etc. Most of their knives are made with the traditional Japanese Katana forging procedure, which is to sandwitch harder steel with softer steel to realize both hardness and viscosity. This is a rare Non-Higonokami style (fixed blade) model by Kanekoma factory with wisteria vine handle.The finishing is very robust with beautiful hammerd pattern. The Blue Paper steel is made from composite of White Paper steel (the purest carbon steel) with chrome and tungsten. The total length is almost same as opened regular Higonokami folding knives but with shorter (thicker) blade and longer handle for more sturdiness. Since the production quantity of this model is small, supply and availability is unstable.
