Ludovic Penin was born in 1830 and died at the age of 38 in 1868. In 1864, he was awarded the title of “Graveur Pontifical” for the quality of his work. His father, Marius Penin, trained a young sculptor, Alexandre Poncet. Penin became Penin-Poncet after Alexandre Poncet (1844-1913) married Ludovic Penin's daughter, Marie-Emilie, and the company prospered.
