Description: This is an ice coupon booklet from the 1920's It is from the Wareham hotel in Manhattan Kansas. HISTORY: Back before we had refrigerators people stored food in an "Ice Box" You would have to buy ice for it as your ice melted down. In the winter you could just use ice and snow from outside, but in the summer you needed to buy ice blocks from an ice company. The ice company would sell you these booklets at their main office with tear out coupons for 25 pounds of ice. This was to keep the delivery man from collecting money and having to make change all the time, because the ice was allways melting on the truck. So you would just tear out a 25 lb. coupon, give it to the delivery man, and he would give you the 25 lb. block of ice. I have booklets in 250 lbs, 500 lbs, 1000 lbs, versions. Sorry I am now out of the 5000 lb. and the 3000 lb. booklets All booklets have 4 coupons per page A 250 lb. booklet has 24 coupons of 12 1/2 lbs. A 500 lb. booklet has 8 coupons of 25 lbs., 24 coupons of 10 lbs., 12 coupons of 5 lbs. A 1000 lb. booklet has 24 coupons of 25 lbs., 16 coupons of 15 lbs., 16 coupons of 10 lbs. Please specify what size you want. If you don't I will send you my choice of size. These booklets are 100 years old, so the cover paper is fairly brittle if bent to far. Please use caution and do not bend back the cover to far when opening them. INCLUDED is a free 1960 vintage glossy color post card of the Wareham hotel with 14 classic cars on the street. 60 CENTS SHIPPING FEE for U.S. buyers. Item #261
