Description: Imperial German, Great War, Near Mint, Jaeger Officer’s Visor Cap with Mountain Award likely from the Romanian campaign around the Carpathian Mountains bordering Hungary. Jaegers were the elite among Imperial German Infantry Regiments. In Napoleonic times, German Jaegers and their equivalents in the British Rifle Regiments were the army’s marksmen. They were the best shots, equipped with the most advanced weapons. These weapons enabled them to hit selected targets at a greater distance, with a higher degree of accuracy. They served a skirmishes at their army’s heads and were trained to disrupt their enemies command and control by targeting officers. The Cap is made of Dark Green Wool, with a bright Red band that measures 1.75” in width. One very thin bright red piping band encircles the top. The correct Prussian Officer’s and Reich Kokarden decorate the Caps front center. The Caps interior shows some wear and perspiration stain on the liner. The exterior is flawless with no moth nips and some light soiling. Imperial Germany was a federation of twenty-seven kingdoms, duchies, principalities and "free and imperial cities". By far the largest of these components was Prussia, whose King also bore the title of German emperor.
