Description: Mid-century impressionist Rockport area coastal landscape with moored boats by Mildred C. Jones (1899-1992), listed Massachusetts artist, oil on canvas, 18" by 24", signed twice (first signature partially overpainted by artist) lower right, 23K gilded cassetta closed corner frame by Guido Frames, Boston, 24 1/4" by 30 1/4". Artist was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and studied in Philadelphia and Paris Academies under Henri Royer. After her marriage, she lived in London, New York, Cambridge, and summered in Rockport, where she studied with Maurice Compris. In her later years, she lived full-time in Rockport and wintered in Mexico and the Virgin Islands. Jones was a member of the Rockport Art Association. Age of this work is unknown, canvas is nailed to stretchers, likely from mid 20th century. Condition is very good, one spot of retouch in water below the largest boat, replaced stretcher keys, frame has a few minor finish blemishes.
