Description: From our personal collection we are pleased to offer this exceptional side table designed by Josef Hoffmann c. 1907 and probably manufactured by Gebrüder Thonet. We acquired the table at the same Christie's auction in New York at which we acquired the Hector Guimard cabinet we aslso have up for sale. The table is probably beech wood. It has 8 carved balls 2 attached to each leg an iconic design element in Hoffmann's pieces. The top is a lighter, almost honey colored finish while the gently curved / bentwood legs are a darker color, possibly different wood. Please note an identical table is shown in the photo taken of an exhibition, "Josef Hoffmanns Vienna", at the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art in Denver, CO. The one in the photo has been painted white. This was quite a common practice for pieces he made for use in coffee houses and the like. You can see the use of the balls as a design elements in the 7-ball chair shown in the same Denver exhibition (see last photo for close up of the chair). We have the table marked as local pickup only. We will work with any buyer to arrange shipping through one of the reliable local carriers we have used in the past but the onus will be on the buyer for shipping costs and insurance. We believe we have the pieces in our collection fairly priced for collectors given the rarity and condition of most of them We tend not to make offers to watchers but almost all of our pieces have a best offer option.
