These books range from acceptable to very good condition. The most read books are in fair condition. Most are in good to very good condition. This set survived a house fire. There are signs through darkening on the top page edges. There is no other damage. There is no smoke smell. The books have a very pleasant old book smell. There are signs of age or wear through cover/spine fading/rub fading, light soil/rub soil/scuff marks, spine/cover edge/corner rub, corner push, spine upper/lower edge rub/push, page edge rub, scuffs, or scratches, page edge soil/darkening/stains/age staining/age spotting, edge nicks/dents, and yellowing of pages. Some have age spotting within pages as well. Many have a light wrinkle to the pages. All 11 books have some degree darkening on the top page edges. All have corner push. Several pages have edge tears or chips. Many pages have corner folds or creases. Some fingerprints or smudges within pages. This is a very nice set of books for being 108 years old. Guide - Spine has a small split of about 1/16" to 3/32". Volume I - This book is the most worn. I would also consider parts of the book fragile. The spine corners have splitting, visible board, and fraying...the longest split is about 3/8". There is paper splitting in the front leaving board visible. Hinges are visible between blank pages in front...some of the hinges appear to be broken and/or stretched. The second blank page is only attached by about 2" of paper...this page will likely come loose if care isn't taken. Hinges visible again between the blank page and Nursery Rhymes title page...the pages between the visible hinges is loose, but not detached. They may come loose if care isn't taken. The Nursery Rhymes title page has a tear on the spine edge of about 2". Hinges are again visible between pages 36 and 37....page 37 has sever edge tears. There is likely other page edge tears within the book. Hinges are visible in a couple of other locations. Fingerprints/smudges. Volume II - Hinges are beginning to show in front. Some staining at the gutter in front. Volume III - Cover soil both covers. Page edge soil. Hinges are beginning to show in back. Volume IV - Cover soil back cover. Volume V - Cover soil both covers. The spine top edge has a small split of about 1/16". Page edge staining and/or age staining. Volume VI - Cover soil both covers. Back cover outer edge dents. Volume VII - Cover soil back cover. The outer and lower page edges have watermark staining...mostly around the corners...the staining extends to pages but doesn't reach text. Volume VIII - Page edge age spotting/age staining. Volume IX - Cover/spine scuffs/scratches. Cover soil both covers. Spine top edge has a small split of about 1/16" or less. Volume X - End paper is split about 7/8" in front...hinges aren't visible.
