Description: James Joyce, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. New York 1916: The Modern Library #145. With an Introduction by Herbert Gorman. Bound in green cloth with gray top stain (binding #8), the dust jacket (style "i") is price clipped and contains obvious imperfections, most notably, chipping top and bottom spine, smudge on spine and back cover, light soiling and creasing throughout. Previous owner has reinforced tear along fold between spine and back cover with tape. (Please See All Photos.) Inside DJ lists 371 books, placing the date of this volume at 1954. There is handwriting on 2 pages in the book (see photos), plus previous owner's signature on inside front end page (see photo). Binding is solid. This remains a collectible copy of this ML title which is hard to find with this version DJ, which only appeared for 3 years (from 1954-56), after which the Portrait of the Artist title was dropped completely from the ML catalog. Nevertheless, given imperfections to DJ, it is priced to sell. This item is from my personal collection, and as I am not a professional book seller, I am providing ample photos rather than attempting to rate the book or the dust jacket using industry terms. I have tried to provide photos of any notable imperfections. Please feel free to email me with any questions. I want you to be happy with your purchase. Shipping equals the exact cost of 2lb. media mail shipping; no handling or processing fee applied. Shipped in plastic mylar cover to protect DJ.
