The name is taken from that of a small woodland glen that lies at the center of the area but is now generally applied to the wider region."The Doones" are and area of Exemoor, in nothern Somerset and Devon, made famous by the popular 19th century novel Lorna Doone. A pair of interesting vintage travel guides for less well-known areas in Britain.1. Views of the Trosachs and Loch Katrine is good in brown cloth with black and gilt titles on the front cover. The covers are scuffed and the corners showing wear, but the binding is still sound. I has 30 pages of text preceding 12 color lithographs of views of the area. Very slight foxing on a few of the plates. No other marks or damage.2. The Story of the Doones, in Fact, Fiction and Photo is fair in tan paper wrappers, with green and black titles on the spine and front cover. The text is stapled with the wrappers originally wrapped around and glued to the text block. The glue has deteriorated, so the wraparound has separated, but both the wrapper and the text block are still intact, with no loss. Minor wear around the wrappers. 108 pages, with numerous black and white photos and drawings. A large foldout map of Exemoor is affixed inside the back cover. The text is all in good condition. The map has just small tear along the creases.. Good, Fair. CH. Seller ID: B266 Baykorp Books Selling quality books and related items at reasonable prices.
