Description: Welcome toCelestial Nonesuch For Sale Today: A gorgeous piece of antique Japanese ceramic and metalware making history - this is a Meiji era Japanese cylindrical vase crafted of porcelain with wire 'cloisons' delineating a form and color change of the enamel. The artwork is called Totai Shippo - typically seen on pottery, this is a wonderful example in a quite translucent porcelain. Marked on base. Fantastic piece of art with deep roots in the artistic traditions of Japan. A great object for study or display, this will make a nice addition to any student or appreciators collection of Chinese art and artifacts.Overall, fair condition with no detectable repairs. A 3" hairline extends down from the rim - detectable on the inside as well as on the rim - the hairline is only detectable on the exterior of the vase to the first cloison which has stopped the hairlines progression. Small chip on the footring appears to be beneath a glaze, likely indicating this was done in the manufacturing process. Exhibits signs of age such as surface wear and weathering.
