Here is a really large ferro rod for starting camp fires and to keep in your wilderness survival/bushcraft kit. This bad boy starts out as a five inch long by 1/2 inch ferro rod blank. I turn the handles, made from Tennessee hardwoods, and then create the sheath for each one. The sheaths are made from hand-dyed tooling leather and each is double hand stitched with high strength artificial sinew. I don't use sewing machines and never use cotton thread with my leather stitching as I want to make a product that will last. The belt loop, which will fit up to a two inch belt, is firmly held in place with three metal rivets and then double hand stitched. Let me know if your belt is wider than two inches so I can make the loop bigger at time of order please.Speaking of lasting, I have no idea how many fires you can start with this thing but I am guessing you will lose it before ever wearing it out. I like to think of it as a lifetime investment, unless you live in the woods full time and use this thing for multiple fires every day. Notice the last picture: That is my hand holding it and, disclaimer, I am a giant Ogre of a man, so that picture is a great reference to the size of this tool.Being hand made, the shade of the leather will vary slightly, as will the finish on the handle, but the pictures represent an average ballpark of what you will receive.
