It was published by The Studio Publications, of London & New York, in circa September, 1941 (date of Preface – possibly the FIRST EDITION). Sydney R. Jones, the topographical draughtsman, has been described as the Canaletto of twentieth-century London. His skill as an architectural draughtsman earned for him the coveted honour of recording the Coronation of the King and Queen. In this book he relates the story of London, giving a picture of it as it was at the outbreak of war, with its crowded skylines, historic buildings and intimate details, interwoven with his memories and illustrated by reproductions of a great many of his drawings and etchings. The destruction of so many London landmarks assures this work historic importance. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages (save there are no blank endpapers). There is no dust-jacket. A good reading copy of this wonderfully illustrated vintage edition.
