Description: Very RARE Venitor Tid-Bit Shops gumball machine 1¢ / 5¢ plus a slug rejectornot the original globe How rare is a Tid-Bit Shops? The Silent Salesman by Bill Enes is considered the ultimate guide for gumball and other vending machines. His first edition published in 1987 does not list this machine but has a picture of it in the vintage ad section. (See last two photos.) The book does list a similar machine, the Pack-It Shop, and suggests it may have been made by Venitor. Instead of a price in the price guides of the 1987 and 1995 editions of Silent Salesman, it only shows “Rare” for the Pack-It and neither edition shows an actual picture of a Tid-Bits Shop machine. I’ve collected coin-operated machines for 40 years and have never seen another one. I also have an eBay search for “Venitor” and have never had a match. HistoryI bought this machine in the 1980s at an antique shop in Rutledge, GA and it's been displayed on a shelf since. Someone made the plywood base and top so the globe they added would fit better. (It originally had an 8-sided tapered globe as shown in the vintage ad). All the other original parts are included. One picture shows the non-original parts (globe and two plywood painted pieces). I polished the brass 1¢/5¢ coin slots and sealed them. I added the 1¢ and 5¢ decals. Condition Working condition. Watch the video to see a penny and nickel inserted and the mechanism rotates. The coins fit snugly. You push them into the slots. I assume that is part of the slug rejector. All metal (steel?) body, top and internal mechanism. The rubber feet have deteriorated. The internal mechanism is solid construction in very nice condition (see picture). I think the machine has its original paint based on this color description (Chinese-tangerine finish) and the fact that I don’t see any evidence around the coin slots and other parts of a re-paint. I don’t know how the person who made the wooden pieces matched the color so you can decide if the paint is original..The top and bottom are secured with concealed nut locks that unscrew. The base fits very snuggly. I removed it to take pictures but didn't press it back on so the buyer can remove it easier. The pictures show all four sides of the machine assembled and all four sides of the base. Features According to the ad: · Tidbit has an “enclosed rejector that refuses penny and nickel slugs.” · Features a “Chinese-tangerine finish - our new trade color creation.” · Bakelite dispenser knob · Concealed locks (counter sunk round nuts) · Sell 1¢ portions and either 5 or 6 penny portions for 5¢ · A full size machine 7 7/8” x 16 7/8” (Note: With the incorrect replacement globe, this machine is only 15 3/4"H) The vintage pennies and nickels shown in the picture are included. All are over 50 years old. Every gumball machine needs vintage coins. Refer to the pictures. No reserve.
