Description: A lot of 14 Lakeside Press volumes, privately published for their customers by R. R. Donnelley and Sons. This is a complete set as issued from 1960 to 1972 (and one from 1976) in graceful and compact hardcovers bound in cloth with gold stamping. All are reprints of classic American history volumes, and many contain the original plates and illustrations. The first five of those published in the 1960s had the US Civil War as their subjects. The titles are: 1960: Hardtack and Coffee: The Unwritten Story of Army Life by John D. Billings. 1961: Outlines from the Outpost by John Esten Cooke. 1962: Colorado Volunteers in New Mexico 1862 by Ovando J. Hollister 1963: Private Smith's Journal: Recollections of the Late War, edited by Clyde C. Walton 1964: Two Views of Gettysburg by Fremantle and Haskell. 1965: Indian War Whoop: Indian Massacres and War in Minnesota by Harriet E. Bishop McConkey 1966: Honolulu: Sketches of Life in the Hawaiian Islands from 1828 to 1861 by Laura Fish Judd. 1967: Three Years in the Klondike by Jeremiah Lynch. 1968: Two Years' Residence on the English Prairie of Illinois by John Woods. 1969: John D. Young and the California Gold Rush, edited by Dwight L. Smith 1970: My Experiences in the West by John S. Collins. 1971: Narratives of Colonial America 1704-1765, edited by Howard H. Peckham 1972: Pioneers: Narratives of Noah Harris Letts and Thomas Allen Banning, edited by Paul M. Angle 1976: Narratives of the American Revolution, edited by Hugh F. Rankin Condition is near fine to fine: all are tight and untipped, gold stamping still fairly bright; a few scuffs on the cloth (see photos). No former owners' names or plates. The 1976 volume is still sealed. A marvelous trove of Americana.
