This was typically done by unit armorers. Metal included. These are legitimate cartouches. They are NOT forgeries. It has a chip on the top behind where your cheek would go. Other than that, there are a few dings and dents due to active duty military service. The stock is in the exact same condition I got it from when I purchased the rifle from the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
