Description: Colored Map Engraving SIZE: 26" x 21.75" framed. This 18th-Century, hand-colored copperplate engraving of the North and Central American regions provides a view of North America from the Great Lakes through the West Indies. This map is very decorative, with the lower left corner embellished by a huge sea battle, and the Atlantic filled with ships, including another sea battle in the center right. Nice detail along the Rio Grande and in Texas. Richly annotated with information regarding the Spanish activities in the Gulf of Mexico. It is also embellished with color illustrations of ships and ports. Indian tribes and villages are also identified. Titled "Mappa Geographica Regionem Mexicanam Floridam." Printed in Augsburg C.1730. It is framed in a teac wood toned frame with an antiqued finish and set under glass. A wire is attached to the verso for hanging along with a paper denoting its previous hanging in David Bendann's fine art rooms. Condition: Some toning and foxing consistent with age.
